York & Bay Dental Office can insert dental implants in a relatively simple procedure that is not any more inconvenient than a tooth extraction. Fabricated from strong materials compatible with your body, dental implants are surgically inserted into the bone of the jaw to replace the root of a missing tooth. An artificial tooth is attached to the implant, and the healing process generally requires about 3-6 months.
Because teeth require each other for support, a missing tooth can change your biting structure so much so that the teeth next to the space will begin to shift. Once this shift occurs, the tooth will not have anything to chew against and it may start to protrude out of its socket. This can eventually lead to additional tooth loss. When your bite changes, you can do damage to your jaw joint, which in turn makes cleaning your mouth more difficult. If you allow harmful plaque and tartar to collect in hard-to-reach places, you can cause cavities, permanent bone loss, and gum disease.
In addition to implants, we also use bridges to solve missing tooth problems. However, implants prevent ongoing bone loss that occurs once a tooth has been lost, while bridges do not. Implants also don’t affect the teeth next to the space where the missing tooth is like bridges do. Implants and porcelain crowns can give you an attractive appearance and full chewing function, all while preventing bone loss.

"My whole family switched to this practice and it's been such a lovely experience. I have two toddlers and my 3 year asked to go back to the dentist the next day after her appointment! Everyone is very professional and kind. I have also never had such a thorough examination before."
"As usual, Dr Yim and his staff are professional, knowledgable, efficient, supportive, reassuring. Ensure that you understand what the problem is and the plan of action. Treat you as if you were part of the family."
Your child’s dental health and habits will lay a firm foundation for a healthy life. At York & Bay Dental Office, a Hamilton dentist and their team will work with kids who are ages 3 through 10 to provide an interactive dental education. Through our fun First Happy Visit, our dental hygienists will show your child the kind of dental equipment we use to count and clean teeth. By introducing kids to dentist appointments early, parents can help minimize a child’s anxiety. With a little help, you and your kids can learn how to prevent cavities long before they become an ongoing adulthood problem.
