Over the years, York & Bay Dental Office has fit mouth guards for several prominent local sports teams, including the Hamilton Bulldogs, the Toronto Rock, the McMaster University Marauders, and the Hamilton Kilty B’s. Fully equipped with an on-site lab, we can custom-make you a mouth guard using our pressure lamination process.
It’s estimated that as many as 15 million dental injuries and 5 million cases of traumatically avulsed teeth occur in North America every year. It’s believed that sports account for approximately 39% of those dental injuries. This is why sports mouth guards are so important. Not only do they protect your teeth, but they also protect your brain by reducing your risk for getting a concussion. There are three main types of mouth guards:
Stock mouth guards typically only come in a few sizes, meaning they are not customized for the ins and outs of your teeth and gums.
While “boil & bite” mouth guards do offer better protection than stock mouth guards since they’re formed to fit your teeth, they have many issues achieving a uniform thickness. If your mouth guard ends up being thicker in the corners and thinner over your teeth, they provide very little actual protection. Their bulky, poor fit also makes it difficult to breathe and speak clearly.
Custom-fabricated mouth guards made using our pressure lamination process offer a better fit for your teeth and gums for unsurpassed protection and comfort. While the choice for superior protection is obvious, be aware that it will cost you more than your other two options. However, when weighing the cost of fixing a broken or loose tooth compared to the cost of better protection, the choice becomes clearer. Because you’re a one-of-a-kind athlete, make sure your mouth guard is made to custom-fit you. Contact us for more information!

We're blessed to have such amazing patients that have posted 5-star reviews on Google. Here are a few reviews we love!
"My whole family switched to this practice and it's been such a lovely experience. I have two toddlers and my 3 year asked to go back to the dentist the next day after her appointment! Everyone is very professional and kind. I have also never had such a thorough examination before."
"As usual, Dr Yim and his staff are professional, knowledgable, efficient, supportive, reassuring. Ensure that you understand what the problem is and the plan of action. Treat you as if you were part of the family."
Your child’s dental health and habits will lay a firm foundation for a healthy life. At York & Bay Dental Office, a Hamilton dentist and their team will work with kids who are ages 3 through 10 to provide an interactive dental education. Through our fun First Happy Visit, our dental hygienists will show your child the kind of dental equipment we use to count and clean teeth. By introducing kids to dentist appointments early, parents can help minimize a child’s anxiety. With a little help, you and your kids can learn how to prevent cavities long before they become an ongoing adulthood problem.
