Over the years, York & Bay Dental Office has fit mouth guards for several prominent local sports teams, including the Hamilton Bulldogs, the Toronto Rock, the McMaster University Marauders, and the Hamilton Kilty B’s. Fully equipped with an on-site lab, we can custom-make you a mouth guard using our pressure lamination process.

It’s estimated that as many as 15 million dental injuries and 5 million cases of traumatically avulsed teeth occur in North America every year. It’s believed that sports account for approximately 39% of those dental injuries. This is why sports mouth guards are so important. Not only do they protect your teeth, but they also protect your brain by reducing your risk for getting a concussion. There are three main types of mouth guards:

Stock Mouth Guards

Stock mouth guards typically only come in a few sizes, meaning they are not customized for the ins and outs of your teeth and gums.

Mouth-Formed Mouth Guards (a.k.a. Boil & Bite)

While “boil & bite” mouth guards do offer better protection than stock mouth guards since they’re formed to fit your teeth, they have many issues achieving a uniform thickness. If your mouth guard ends up being thicker in the corners and thinner over your teeth, they provide very little actual protection. Their bulky, poor fit also makes it difficult to breathe and speak clearly.

Custom-Fabricated Mouth Guards (Dentist-Made)

Custom-fabricated mouth guards made using our pressure lamination process offer a better fit for your teeth and gums for unsurpassed protection and comfort. While the choice for superior protection is obvious, be aware that it will cost you more than your other two options. However, when weighing the cost of fixing a broken or loose tooth compared to the cost of better protection, the choice becomes clearer.
